Help, I Need a new case!
The cables do not fit well
in the old case and there might be an overheating problem when closing that
case.
There are too many flex cables and disks inside which are obstructing any fresh
air to cool the parts.
Some disks can't be secured as the case is really full.
This weekend, I found a bigger case, which seems to be suitable for me. And
it looks nice! It is made of aluminium.
Front view: the new case
on the left side is bigger in width and in height.
Side view: the new case
on the left is deeper too.
And it came with
wheels! But the use of these may be too dangesous on a desk.
The system board tray can
be shifted out from the case, same like as with the old one.
The subchassis, on which the system
board and add-on cards can be mounted. Note that there is a 120mm fan in the back.
There is also a 120mm fan in the front, which will cool the disks.
On the system board are extra power connectors for these, and their function
can be monitored via BIOS and an online Asus utility.
After removing some flex
cables, you will begin to find some of the inner content in the old box.
Notice the two disks at the bottom! Not nice...
Jaj! I really hope I will
remember where all those screws near the CDROMs came from...
I removed 6 disks, a floppy drive, zip drive, jaz drive, CDROM drive, CD burner,
and a DVD drive.
I will reuse the 320 Watts power
supply. The other one I gave to a friend.
The system board on the
old chassis. You'll find a FireWire card, Audigy Sound card,
Adaptec U2W SCSI controller, Promise UATA100 card, Geforce 2 GTS card,
and two 256MB DIMMs plugged onto the system board.
This is a Asus A7M266, with Athlon Thunderbird 1400.
The North-bridge, CPU, and Graphics card have their own cooling fans.
Note that the memory chips on the graphics card have heatsinks.
The system board on the
new chassis, complete with the add-on cards.
On the right bottom side
we can see 5 disks, the 6th disk is on the left top side.
The removable media is already mounted too.
Do I need to know what goes
where? These cables filled up the old case, obstructing ventilation.
Let's see how they will fit in here.
There's still sufficient
room for venting cooling air.
Mmm. Do I see that last
picture on the monitor again? Seems everything works fine!
Time for a cup-a-soup! Then, I'll publish these pictures on the web.
The case will be modified with these LEDs:
